Learning Outcomes

HISTORY

Our history curriculum builds pupils’ understanding of the past through a strong sense of chronology and the study of how people, communities and events have shaped change over time. From personal history in Early Years to ancient civilisations and modern conflict in Key Stage 2, pupils develop the key concepts of chronology, influence, community and conflict, alongside enquiry and interpretation skills.

GEOGRAPHY

Our geography curriculum helps pupils understand places, environments and natural systems, and how people interact with them. Learning progresses from local environments in Early Years to global regions, climate, natural resources and human impact in Key Stage 2, developing strong concepts of place, locality, resources and migration

Our science curriculum develops pupils’ understanding of the natural world through the concepts of structures, changes and investigation. From exploring materials and animals in Key Stage 1 to studying forces, states of matter, electricity and the human body in Key Stage 2, pupils build curiosity and scientific skills through hands‑on enquiry and real‑world application.

This website has been created to provide pupils of Maypole Primary School with a platform to share their learning and expertise with a wider audience.

As part of the Inspire Academy Movement, leaders have developed a bespoke curriculum entitled ‘A Curriculum to Inspire’. Rooted in the National Curriculum, this approach provides pupils with rich, contextualised and meaningful learning experiences. Each experience culminates in a purposeful outcome, mirroring the authentic practices of professionals in that field.

For example, during a history learning experience, pupils adopt the role of historians. Historians may deliver talks, publish written accounts, or share findings through digital platforms—each serving as a means of imparting knowledge. In the same way, our pupils create outcomes that allow them to communicate their understanding to others.

This website exists not only to showcase pupils’ work, but to act as a genuine learning resource—one through which children can share their newly acquired knowledge and support others in learning from it.
